The Hustler VX4 deck is 15" at the top, tapering at the back of the discharge opening to 19" at the bottom. This says to me the Scag Velocity Plus deck will not slow grass ...I've not used a Kubota mower but do have three Kubota tractors and a Scag Cheetah mower. I can tell you the Scag is just a great mower. Very well balanced. If you buy a mower with a diesel engine the engine will outlast the rest of the mower by quite a bit. In March of 2014, I purchased a 72" Scag Cheetah equipped with a Kohler 34efi engine.
